The course is designed mainly for teachers and community football coaches who deliver football during schools curriculum time. Key Stage 2 children are those in schools years 3 – 6 or more simplified aged 7 – 11 in Primary Schools
The course is very much focused on the delivery of football in curriculum time and giving teachers knowledge and confidence to deliver football sessions during PE lessons. The specific content is mainly fun games that every child can relate to, even those preferred sport isn’t football. The games range from warm-ups - fun practices around the basic skills required to play football - invasion games specific to football skills. The content of the course can also be adapted to other sports that teachers deliver in schools.
Football Development Officer Lee Brown went along to the course to speak to the teachers about the F.A Charter Standard Schools programme and the Football Foundation Junior Kit Scheme.
The Charter Standard Scheme is the F.A’s kitemark for the delivery of schools football. There are certain criteria that schools need to me, one of which is having a member of staff qualified to teach football such as the course Key Stage 2 teaching certificate. The schools will now be able to apply for this and receive free equipment, free tickets for England youth and women’s international matches as well as many other benefits.
The Junior Kit scheme gives the schools the opportunity to apply for £400 free kit and equipment from the Football Foundation. Any school, club or community group can apply once every three years providing they are working towards or have achieved the Charter Standard award.
