The Football Foundation – Build the Game
The Build the Game scheme provides small grants for small facility projects. The scheme has flexible criteria and there are many eligible items, so long as it is the right project for the right applicant. All projects must demonstrate they can support the growth and retention of grassroots football. The maximum grant available is £50,000 and there is no limit to the total cost of a project this could contribute towards.
The average level of grant provided is 50%. Applicants must demonstrate a financial need for grant aid and contribute all of their own available money to the project. Financial contributions from other funding organisations are also expected. Please note that the Build the Game scheme now incorporates what was the Foundations Goal Post Safety scheme.

Sport England
In addition to investment in key partners to deliver specific objectives, Sport England is launching funding programmes open to a wide range of organisations. These include sports clubs, voluntary or community organisations, local authorities, schools, colleges and universities.
The funding programmes are as follows,
• Small Grants
- The Sport England Small Grants Programme uses lottery funding to make awards of between £300 and £10,000 to not-for-profit organisations to deliver new community projects to either grow or sustain participation in sport or to support talent development.
• Sportsmatch
- Sportsmatch makes awards to none profit organisations that have secured sponsorship to deliver new community projects to grow or sustain participation in sport.
- Sportsmatch uses money from the government to encourage new sponsorship of grassroots community sport. Priority is given to applications seeking to match sponsorship from the commercial sector but donations from private individuals or charitable trusts are also acceptable provided they meet our sponsorship eligibility criteria.
- Awards of between £1,000 and £100,000 can be made to match funding from no more than five sponsors, with each sponsor contributing a minimum of £1,000. Sport England funding for the project must be spent by 31 March 2012.
