There have been many changes in the game in the last two years, both locally and nationally, the most notable of which include England reaching the final of Euro 2009 in Finland.

For three consecutive years, over 20,000 fans have attended the Women’s FA Cup final and TV coverage of major matches has also increased. Many of our local sides travel up to this event and it is great to have such a good Northamptonshire representation there.

Grassroots football for girls has seen a 17% increase nationwide in this time, and the number of female coaches at Level 1 nationwide is now over 16,000. Of these, 1000 are also Level 2 qualified, and just over 100 hold a Level 3 certificate.

Within the county we are committed to developing more teams and coaches throughout the spectrum. The Northamptonshire Female Coach mentoring scheme is in place to support coaches through their coaching pathways.

This year our two main work programmes will be based on the running of two independent Girls Soccer Centres and also a programme of under 8 Mini-Soccer festivals throughout the season. Both of these programmes are available thanks to Tesco’s sponsorship of women and girls football.

We are also able to offer small grants of £400 for any new girls or women’s team entering the league this season.

The FA funds 52 Centres of Excellence nationwide and our County funded centre is Northampton Town Centre of Excellence. The centre runs age groups at U10, 12, 14 and 16 and players take part in regional fixtures against other Centres of Excellence most weekends. For more information about the Centre of Excellence, please contact the Centre Director, Stephen Healy on Stephen.healy@ntfc.tv.
