The scheme was launched in April 2008 and is being run with funding direct from the FA, Tesco and the National Sport Foundation.
The aims of the scheme are to:
- Increase the number of active female coaches in our region
- Increase knowledge and confidence of active coaches working with groups at 5-11, 11-16 and 17+ age groups
- To develop more coaches who are qualified to coach the FA Youth Award Level 3 Unit 1 and at level 2
Along with these 3 aims are some objectives which we hope all coaches will benefit from:
- To develop as an effective coach working with their players
- To develop coaching values and self worth
- An ongoing support network for all female coaches in the region
- To act as an ambassador for the broader coaching community
- For each individual to reach their own coaching potential
The scheme consists of a number of large scale regional events that all county coaches are welcome to attend. The first of these was held in April in Nottingham and was hugely successful. We were lucky enough to haveĀ four highly qualified female coaches delivering practical and theory sessions to the participants. Lois Fidler, Gemma Grainger, Sarah Greene and Jane Haslam were all on hand to offer expertise in a variety of topics.
In between these larger events, counties put on smaller events with skills coaches and other female coaches. There is also opportunity to observe at the Centre of Excellence, carry out peer observations and receive mentoring from County FA coaches.
If you would like to join the scheme, it is open to all female coaches of 16 years and above. It does not matter if you cannot attend all of the events but it would be beneficial to attend as many as you can.
