HISTORY

The records of the Association show that the cup was donated to the Association by Captain J Cecil Cockayne Maunsell in November 1911. With the Great War looming it was very common for the military to be involved in local sport and football was no different. Captain Maunsell, being of local descent, and residing at The Hall, Thorpe Malsor near Kettering was not connected with the County Association, but offered to purchase a trophy to be competed for by the County clubs of the time. At a price of 50 guineas (a considerable sum at that time) the trophy was initially presented to the winners of the then established ‘Senior’ Cup.
