The initial participants from around the County took part in three local events at Moulton College, led by Football Development Officer, Lee Brown. Lee delivered some example sessions and gave the Young Leaders simple ideas on how to develop and change sessions by changing one aspect of the organisation.
The Young Leaders took part in the sessions, and were then given the task to go away and devise their own sessions to deliver to the rest of the group. The standard was high and the sessions went very well with all the Young Leaders having taken on Lee’s advice.
From these three days, four young leaders were then selected to take part in a Regional Young Leadership Day at Leicestershire FA on Thursday 16th April. Young leaders from Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Sheffield and Hallamshire and Northamptonshire took part in the day which saw participants working in groups on fun exercises and taking part in a Tesco Skills session, as well as planning and delivering a coaching session themselves. Lee Brown and Kathryn Hall, Women and Girls Football Development Officer, went along to support the candidates throughout the day.
From each County, two young leaders then had to be selected to attend the week-long Young Leadership camp in Warwick. Kathryn, who will be going to Warwick as one of the staff involved said, “The standard from the Young Leaders was very high, with the presence of last year’s Young Leaders giving this year’s candidates a benchmark to aim for. We have had a good standard within the County this year and it has been hard to select just two from the final four.”
We wish Chevaz and Laura all the best on the week long camp where four leaders will be in with a chance of being selected to go to Malawi to coach children in Africa. It will be a great week and they are guaranteed to come away having learned lots of skills as well as many everlasting memories.
