From the 2007/08 season, The Football Association decreed that a level of Public Liability Insurance for all clubs will be mandatory. For this reason the Association will be working in conjunction with Sportsguard/Perkins Slade to provide this cover direct to clubs and Leagues. Upon direction from The FA, the following minimum requirements for clubs in this County will be as follows:
- Public and Product Liability £5m Indemnity Level
(including player to player)
- Employers Liability £5m Indemnity Level
- Professional Indemnity £5m Indemnity Level
- Directors and Officer Liability £5m Indemnity Level
- Employment Practices £5m Indemnity Level
It should be noted that the ‘player to player’ element is to safeguard against such costs that might be incurred if say a club/player was legally challenged by an opposing player for injuries received in a game.
It is NOT personal accident insurance and Clubs and/or players requiring this type of cover will have to continue to make their own arrangements.
The cost of the Public Liability policy outlined above will be £42 per club.
This insurance will be mandatory to all league/clubs affiliating to the Association for the 2008/2009 season the only exception being if a league/club can demonstrate it has in place a policy of equal or greater cover to that listed above for the whole of the season.
It is acknowledged that many Leagues have provided this type of policy for their clubs in the past, indeed many with Sportsguard, but it is understood that this policy will no longer be offered by Sportsguard direct to Leagues.
Any Club wishing to make a claim on their Public Liability Insurance should contact Sportsguard directly on 01604 644277 and ask for Daniel or Kevin.
