@ Holmes Park
Northamptonshire County U16 Girls representative team travelled to Holmes Park to play Leicestershire in their first game of this seasons Midland Counties Youth League Competition.
Once again this fixture was played on a Thursday evening the first really cold evening of the winter with a rain shower prior to kick off leaving the girls with a very well prepared and immaculate surface to play on.
It’s always a pleasure to play at Holmes Park!
Leicestershire girls were the stronger side from the start of play with much of the first twenty minutes played in our own half, we needed time to settle into the game, and Leicestershire took full advantage of our early short passes, and kept us on the back foot.
Northamptonshire were two goals down by half time and the game could have easily slipped away from us, a marked improvement in the second half made sure that was not the case, the girls played with much more commitment and skill on the ball, a very young side showed signs of growing into the game and it was in the latter minutes that Leicestershire scored their third.
The girls from both Counties were a credit to the game, it was played with a competitive spirit and determination, anyone wondering what the F.A Respect campaign is about would do well to watch the return leg of this fixture at Thrapston on Thursday 27th November 7.30pm.
