Sheffield & Hallamshire FA Girls 9 v 0 Northamptonshire FA Girls

Sunday 8th November 09
Midland Youth Championship

Following a sparkling performance against Leicestershire, expectations were high for the girls trip to Doncaster and the chance to retain pole position. Unfortunately, Sheffield had other ideas and made their mark with only two minutes played.

Our girls found it difficult to get out of their own half as Sheffield made numerous attempts on goal and surely would have scored more but for some good saves from Sophie Gardner however, she was eventually beaten in the 19th and 27th minute going in at half time three goals down.

The half time interval did us few favours as Sheffield scored within seconds of the restart, with things not looking promising for a scoring fight back.

However, all credit is due to our girls who then enjoyed a short spell of dominance, finding the woodwork on three occasions and never giving in to their in form and well organised opponents.
Despite this spell, the home side then went on to defeat their visiting neighbours in dominate fashion, thrashing in a few goals before the long-awaited final whistle.

With two more home games to look forward too, the Northamptonshire girls still have something to play for in the New Year, and must learn from this game and move on quickly.
