Northamptonshire FA u16 Girls 2 v 4 Leicestershire FA u16 Girls

Brackley Town Football Club hosted this return match and after a much needed win at Holmes Park, the Northamptonshire girls were hopefully of a good result.

The opening exchanges were equal but an unfortunate hand ball gifted Leicestershire a penalty in the 6th minute. This seemed to spur our girls on and within a minute of the restart, Leah Cudone making good use of a defensive error, lobbed the ball over the goalkeeper from just outside the 18-yard box to level the score.

The NFA girls enjoyed long periods of dominance but could not make it count while Leicestershire came close on the counter only to be stopped short by some excellent defending, Kate Swanson saving the day on more than one occasion.

Leicestershire’s persistence finally paid off and they took the lead in the 18th minute and controlled the game from that point, the half time whistle, with the score at 2-1, was more than welcome.

The second half started as the first finished, Leicestershire were pushing for that third goal and some brilliant individual attempts from their key striker failed to find the net.

After many attempts, Leicestershire slotted home their third goal after 57 minutes. However, Kelly Sutton collected the ball wide and cut inside to score a brilliant solo effort in the 63rd minute and keep our girls in the hunt, but they were beaten by the individual talents of the Leicestershire striker who killed the game on 65 minutes.
