CHRISTIAN SMITH JOINS NORTHAMPTONSHIRE FA AS DISABILITY FOOTBALL DEVELOPMENT OFFICER

Christian, who commenced his post on Wednesday 10 April, lives in Kettering and arrives at the County FA with a wealth of experience in the area of disability football.

A non-executive director of the Great Britain Disability Football Association, he is also coaching with a special needs group at Kettering FC.

Direct experience also comes from his 13 year-old son Dylan, who has Downs Syndrome. Christian was a founder member of the Northants-based Downs Syndrome charity Ups ‘n’ Downs and alongside Kevin Kilbane, was instrumental in the foundation of the DS Active programme launched by the Downs Syndrome Association in 2006; a project that now provides regular sessions for people with DS at over 40 professional clubs.

Christian has a 25 year history in the professional game, including 13 years as Commercial Director of the Professional Footballers’ Association.

He said: “I am dedicated to and passionate about providing opportunities for people with disabilities access to our beautiful game. I am focused on continuing the great work the County FA have already done in this area and enhancing the experience for players with disabilities.”
