Match Report: Birmingham FA 3-1 Northamptonshire FA

Northamptonshire FA’s U18 Representative Team fell to a 3-1 defeat against Birmingham FA in the Midland Counties Youth Football Championships on Saturday (23 February).

Northants travelled to Birmingham on Saturday for their last away league game in the MCYC with hopes of moving themselves up the league table as the season starts to draw to a close.

It was a frantic start from both teams, with Birmingham taking the lead after 15 minutes with a well-placed goal. However, Northamptonshire gained an equaliser just before half time with a header from Connor I’Anson after a quality cross from the right; taking the game to 1-1.

The second half commenced and Birmingham added a second goal quickly, followed by a final strike which meant they won 3-1 on what was a great day to play and watch football.

Credit to both teams for a good game of representative football. Both sides showed great levels of competitiveness and 100 per cent effort in a game that could have gone either way.

Many thanks to Birmingham FA for their hospitality and warm welcome.

Northants FA’s next game is at home to Nottinghamshire on Sunday 10 March at Bugbrooke St Michael FC (2pm KO). This will be Northamptonshire’s last league game of the season and also Jon Inwood, Rep Team Manager, last game in charge.
