Remembering Srebrenica Football Tournament

Working alongside the local Inclusion Advisory Group, Northamptonshire FA is planning to host a Remembering Srebrenica 'WeAreOne' Football Tournament in Northampton on Sunday 14 July to help promote inclusion through the power of football.

Remembering Srebrenica is a British charitable initiative. It recognises that we have achieved a lot in terms of building a cohesive society here in the UK, but discrimination, promotion of hatred and exclusion still persist. We must play our part, no matter how large or small, to create a better and safer society for all.

No society is invulnerable to prejudice and intolerance. We must all take positive action to build stronger, more resilient communities. Its vision is a society free from hatred.

The sentiment of the Charity’s message is in line with the work we as an Inclusion Advisory Group (IAG) strongly believe in; our aim is to promote all communities in our town to have the same opportunities to take part, enjoy and be themselves whatever their gender, age, faith or any other characteristics that define our communities.

Football can build bridges, and allows people to share a commonality; this can only be a good thing.

We cordially invite your community group to take part in this 'WeAreOne' tournament on Sunday 14 July in Northampton.

The event is focussed on involving people typically not involved in local football. Ability is not key to getting involved.

In the interest of being as inclusive as possible, we have yet to decide the full format and would really like your input.

How many players do you think you may have? What are their needs and abilities? Would you need any transport support to attend? The only thing we have agreed is that it is an adult event so all participants must be 18 or older on the day of the event.

If you are committed in taking part in this community event, please email Ian.Tinto@NorthantsFA.com with the following information. We will then be in contact with further details of the event format.

Organisation name and lead contact
How many players could you bring along
What is their level of fitness/ability
Would you need transport support
Contact email address
Contact number

We would really value having your community group take part; this may be a football event however more importantly it is about uniting people across Northampton, playing football in memory of the over 8372 men and boys who were killed in the Srebrenica genocide and in taking part, scoring a public victory against hatred and intolerance.
