Football on the corner.

Representative Side Fall To Durham

A challenging first half proves too difficult to come back from for Northamptonshire's under-18s.

Northamptonshire FA's Under-18 representative side came off second best against a very good Durham squad in the Under-18 County Youth Cup.

The first 35 minutes were very even, with both sides having chances. However, Durham grabbed the lead with a great cross and finish.

Northamptonshire responded well with a great 25-yard effort from Paneshe Madamba, which hit the crossbar. However, Northants were left to pay when, in a crazy five minutes, Durham took a 4-0 lead with three goals in the 40th, 43rd and 45th minutes.

This left Northants 4-0 down at half time.

Northamptonshire came out for the second half and put in a good hard-working performance, but couldn't snatch a goal. Durham grabbed a fifth goal late on and the score ended 5-0.

Credit must go to Durham who were the better side on the day and credit to the Northants players for never giving up. They were unlucky not to get at least a consolation goal.

Good luck to Durham in the next round.

All officials and players were a credit to county football.

Special mention must go to Daventry Town's committee, officials and the hard-working staff, for their wonderful welcome and hospitality, which was first class.

Northamptonshire's next game is away to Bedfordshire FA at Kempston Rovers FC on 17 November at 2pm.
