Peterborough United, the venue for The FA Sunday Cup Final 2019

Congratulations and Commiserations for County’s Professional Teams

Congratulations to Peterborough United on their outstanding season

As we move towards the end of another difficult season for football at all levels, Northamptonshire Football Association are delighted to congratulate Darren Ferguson and his Peterborough United side on their outstanding season which led to promotion back to the Football League Championship.

Free-scoring Posh joined Hull City in promotion from League One following a number of magnificent displays including a memorable 7-0 victory against Accrington Stanley back in March.

With the Peterborough United Ladies also looking at a possible promotion from the East Midlands Regional League it is with great pride that we wish both teams every success for an exciting 2021/22 season.

Sadly, despite the best efforts of manager Jon Brady, Northampton Town returned to League Two after a roller-coaster of a season both on and off the pitch.  Despite this, the Club’s Community Trust have gone from strength to strength during the recent pandemic and the NFA are delighted to support the Cobblers as we both look forward to the start of what we hope will be an uninterrupted season ahead.

Stuart BurtFinally, huge congratulations to Northampton-based official Stuart Burt who makes his second appearance as Assistant Referee in tomorrow’s FA Cup Final between Leicester City and Chelsea.  Stuart will once again be supporting Michael Oliver and we wish him all the best for a memorable day at Wembley and indeed for the forthcoming European Championships for which he has now been appointed!
