This section of our website includes information regarding playing opportunities and details for each girls or women’s club within the county.
As well as the two main female football leagues that we work with, the MDH Midshires Girls League & the Northamptonshire Women’s Football League, there are opportunities for those aged 16+ to play at a Regional level and higher. Both of the above league websites have details of all the teams and secretaries should you wish to make contact with clubs directly. The girls league have clubs that cater for players aged 5-16 and the women’s league deal with players aged 16+.
Both leagues are Charter Standard Leagues, with the Women’s League having won Charter Standard League of the Year for the County this season. This means that over 75% of the teams in each league are Charter Standard teams. Teams with the FA Charter Standard award have a coach with every team who has a Level 1 FA Coaching certificate and an FA CRB, and all adult team managers have an Emergency Aid certificate. Teams without the FA Charter Standard may not have these things in place.
Following the FA Talent restructure that took place in June 2011, Northamptonshire no longer has an FA funded Centre of Excellence for Girls within the County. The nearest FA Funded Centres are in Milton Keynes, Oxford, Cambridge and Lincoln. There is also now a second tier of FA funded elite football for girls, this involves Player Development Centres (PDC). The Northamptonshire PDC is being hosted by Peterborough United. Girls involved with an FA funded PDC may also play for their grassroots teams. For more information on the FA talent pathway, please follow this link.
Our county is fortunate to have some fantastic, friendly and well-run female football teams.
