NFA Centre of Referee Excellence

Northamptonshire FA is pleased to launch the NFA Centre Of Referee Excellence (CORE) at the start of the 2017/18 season. The scheme sees a clear pathway for referees from their FA Referee Course, right the way through to the National FA CORE scheme.

Northants FA CORE Academy

•    To provide on-going professional referee development for newly-qualified referees
•    To retain more referees post-course
•    To identify and nurture referees for further development within RDG and FA CORE programmes

The structure:

There will be an open invitation to be a part of the Academy from The Referee Courses for a maximum of TWO full seasons. Referees will be offered two  years’ worth of support after the course, for no additional cost.

The Provision:
•    Monthly meetings
•    Northampton Town Academy games
•    Academy Graduation Incentive
•    Continual feedback, support and development

Northampton Town:
The group will provide cover on Northampton Town Academy games from U9-U14 as referees/assistant referees at Moulton College weekly on Sunday mornings. At these games, there will be a member of the Northants FA Referee Development Team present to offer support and developmental advice to all referees present.

Referees will have dress code on the day and be expected to deliver themselves off the field just as we expect at UCL games. These games will be appointed to by the County FA.

•    Monthly
•    Rotating between Northampton and Kettering to cater for wider county referees
•    1900-2100 with 1-hour practical delivery and 1-hour classroom
•    Second Monday of every month to tie in with Start of Season (September) and End of Season (May)

After two years in the scheme, the referee should have improved dramatically with the support and development opportunities provided in this scheme, and they should be ready to progress into the Northants FA CORE scheme (previously the Northants FA Referee Development Group), and adult football.

Northants FA CORE (previously Referee Development Group)
The Northants FA Referee Development Group will continue next season in the same format as it did last season. The name has changed to Northants FA CORE as opposed to Northants FA Referee Development Group, and that is purely to tie it in better with the national scheme and the pathway towards that national scheme. The first meeting of this group will be in September, and they will meet monthly through to April.
