Across the county, there are a number of educational opportunities within schools and colleges, which work alongside football clubs.

EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES

Are you aged 16-18 and looking to combine football and studying in a football club environment? 

Corby Town Football Club are looking for boys and girls aged 16-18 who are looking to earn a place in September's full time academy sides.

This is an excellent way to take your first step towards becoming a professional or semi professional football player. In the last 3 seasons Corby Town FC have seen more than 10 academy players feature in the 1st team squad and now we are looking for the next local star to break through.... could that be you?

Kettering Town Football Club is in a unique position to offer their football students a variety of full time A Level and BTEC courses in partnership with Kettering Buccleuch Academy and Future Lions. We value every students experience with us and provide our very own player technology with bespoke performance monitoring, GPS tracking and the use of our VEO camera to record our matches. Enrichment trips such as Football League u23 matches, Wembley Stadium, University visits and guest speakers are an important part of the programme. We also offer the FA Level 1 football coaching qualification delivered at the football club on a bespoke programme for our students only.

Our Elite side compete in the competitive National league and cup competitions, with our development sides competing in the ECFA Invitation leagues. At 16, we believe in getting your education right, which will enable us to help you reach your full potential as a player and person.

FOOTBALL STUDIES (BA HONS DEGREE)

Our BA Hons degree in Football Studies is focused around the key growth areas of the industry which are business, media and journalism and football coaching to give you a breadth of knowledge encompassing the whole industry.

As student at Milton Keynes College you will focus on developing specific knowledge and skills through meaningful work placements and an engaging curriculum. You will study specific and carefully tailored modules that will help you develop these skills to scaffold your knowledge and become industry ready upon graduation. In partnership with University of Northampton you will enjoy the privileges offered by the UON and have unique access to their resources and student unions. 

This degree provides you with comprehensive knowledge and real-world experience of the football industry. You will have the opportunity to study a range of contemporary themes, as well as tailor your study to areas of specific interest within football. Our degree focuses around the current trends of football as an inclusive sport and we are proud of the fact that our degree encompasses these values of equality and diversity.

The Peterborough United Futsal Programme is run by Peterborough United Foundation. After a successful few seasons with both male and female scholarships running so well and with the growing game for females, Posh are also offering a girls only Futsal scholarship education programme to run alongside the boys'.

The Futsal Programme is not only a chance to play Futsal every day, but gain valuable education qualifications delivered by Nene Park Academy. Players will be working towards a BTEC Level 3 in Sport, with personal training courses and NCS programmes also offered.

Wellingborough Town Football Club, in partnership with A Sporting Hand and Loughborough College, offers a football scholarship for 16-18 year olds. The course combines a full time football programme with sports studies. Students can study on a level 2 or level 3 course based on school grades, with a clear pathway into employment within the sports industry or university. 

Players will take part in the ECFA colleges league and will be regularly assessed with a view of being selected for the mens first team. 

The club boasts some brilliant facilities and is also located centrally meaning students have easy access to/from the course.

Tresham Football Academy gives players who find themselves outside of the professional game access to the professional coaching and guidance they require in order to develop their talent. We offer players full time access to UEFA-qualified staff, state-of-the-art training facilities, as well as fitness and conditioning coaches, physiotherapists, video analysis, and sports science support to re-focus the development of players and assist their journey into football.

The Academy programme is aimed at players who are looking to complete their academic and sporting development from the ages of 16 upwards. Alongside tailored training programmes, students will also study for nationally recognised BTEC qualifications in sport.

Applicants should be keen to learn and develop themselves as players under the guidance of professional, motivated staff who want to give each individual the very best chance of recognising their potential.

Students with an ambition to train as professional footballers can now combine sport with a full-time college course. Northampton College have teamed up with the Foundation Academy of Premier League Crystal Palace Football Club to deliver football training at our Booth Lane campus for students aged 16-18.

The programme is being led by former Crystal Palace, Northampton Town, Manchester City and Arsenal player, Eddie McGoldrick, who also played for the Republic of Ireland on the international stage.

How much football coaching is included?

There will be two hours of football coaching each day, alongside strength and conditioning training and individual programmes, led by UEFA-licensed coaches. Students will train during the morning and afternoon, and coaching sessions will be based on five modules - technical, tactical, physical, nutritional and psychological.

Students will also have the chance to play in the National Football Youth League with Premier League clubs including Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United, Liverpool, Everton and Newcastle United.

What programme of study could I follow?

Football coaching is combined with a BTEC Level 3 in Sport, enabling students to study while they play, and secure qualifications that could lead to higher education or an apprenticeship. The study programme will include maths and English qualifications, for those that need them, as well as employability skills and work experience.

How many places are available at the Football Academy?

The Academy has places for around 80 students, both male and female. The Foundation Academy is actively looking for girls to join the programme and participate in the National Football Youth League (NFYL).

What could I do next?

Students will be able to progress to higher education or an Apprenticeship for those who prefer to enter employment and earn while they learn.

Any players who excel at the Football Academy will also have the opportunity to try out for Crystal Palace’s main youth academy in South East London. Former Academy students have had trials for several non-league, semi-professional and professional football clubs and won scholarships to colleges in the USA.

Palace Academy

The Northampton Town Football & Education Programme allows boys and girls aged 16-19 the opportunity to combine their post-16 education with continuing their footballing development at the only professional club in Northamptonshire.

Based at the NTFC Education Centre St. Crispins Campus, there is the opportunity to study for a Level 2 or 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Sport (Performance and Excellence), which opens up a whole range of post-18 pathways into Higher Education, Advanced Apprenticeships, Employment or even US Scholarships. There are opportunities to be supported in achieving other footballing qualifications, such as coaching and refereeing, and also lots of opportunities to gain work experience in a whole range of areas within a professional football club.

Along with up to 15 hours of education, there is a bespoke football programme consisting of up to 8 hours of training along with games representing Northampton Town FC. Male players play games in the National Football Youth League and females compete in the EFL Trust Futsal League. Whilst part of the Programme, you can still continue to play for local sides, so the Programme offers an excellent opportunity to get high level coaching with UEFA-qualified coaching staff to improve all aspects of your footballing ability.

For players that excel on the football side of the Programme, opportunities are provided to progress to higher levels. Several players have trained regularly with the NTFC U18 side and in 2019, Scott Pollock became the first former FEP Scholar to make his 1st team debut for the club.

Raunds Manor School is running a two year course run in partnership with Peterborough United Football Club. Students will play in a variety of competitions, including the Football Conference and British College League alongside cup competitions, and will also have the opportunity to train and play with the partnership club. Students are fully integrated into the sixth form and are expected to comply with the behaviour expectations and academic ethos of Manor School.

This exciting opportunity is open to any enthusiastic athletes aged 14-16 who are thinking of enrolling at Moulton College on the Level 3 Diploma in Sport. The day will consist of a taste of the course, including a Sports Academy training session with our specialist Academy coaches, a strength and conditioning session and a talk on athlete recovery. Kettering Academy provides a range of outstanding facilities, Uefa qualified coaching, video analysis, strength & conditioning and sports science support tailored around the students chosen educational programme.

As well as competing in the ECFA Colleges league and cup competitions, aspiring players will be given the opportunity to train with the under-18 and under-21 sides, which provides a pathway through to Kettering Town's first team. At 16, we believe in getting your education right, which will enable us to help you reach your full potential as a player and person.
