Successful Day for Northants at EMWRFL Finals
Northamptonshire-affiliated clubs had a very successful day at the East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League finals day at Arnold Town FC in Nottingham on Sunday 20 May.
After their recent Northants FA County Cup win, Northampton Town Ladies entered their League Cup Final in confident mood, despite facing a higher-ranked opposition in Eastwood Town Ladies from Nottingham. Their confidence showed in the first half, as they raced into a 2-0 lead before blowing their opponents away in the second period with a further six goals to win the final 8-0.
Earlier in the day, Peterborough Northern Star Ladies lined up in the League Plate Final against Oadby & Wigston Dynamo from Leicestershire. The Peterborough-based side produced a superb performance to win 6-2 and take home the trophy.
These two victories, added to Peterborough United Ladies’ winning the Division 1 South title, represented an excellent season for our clubs in the regional level competition.
The league committee take advantage of cup finals day to present individual awards too, and Northamptonshire clubs were again very well represented.
• Kettering Town Ladies striker Laura Beckett was awarded the Player of the Season for the EMWRFL Premier Division
• Corby Town Ladies goalkeeper Shana Haynes won Goalkeeper of the Season for the EMWRFL
• Northampton Town Ladies striker Emma Dunmore won the EMWRFL top goal scorer with 70 league goals
Congratulations to Peterborough Northern Star Ladies, Northampton Town Ladies, Peterborough United Ladies, Laura, Shana and Emma from everyone associated with Northamptonshire FA.
