Northants v Devon

Match Report: Northants FA 4-2 Devon FA

Northants FA Under-18s made progress in the FA County Youth Cup on Saturday (20 October), beating Devon FA 4-2 at Wellingborough Town.

Both sides showed an attacking intent from the start in this County Youth Cup second round fixture, but it was Northants FA who made their early pressure count, with Jessie Obeng finishing off an excellent Loui Barrett cross to put his side 1-0 ahead.

Devon showed signs of getting back into the game, but – shortly before half-time – a great turn and finish from Hilton Arthur doubled Northants’ advantage.

Devon came out of the blocks quickly in the second period and scored in the 47th minute to make it 2-1, but a tremendous strike from Northants’ Tom Iaciofano restored the two-goal lead.

The visitors came back fighting and were rewarded when they made it 3-2 in the 65th minute. They continued to push for an equaliser, but some excellent Northants defending kept them at bay.

With Devon vulnerable to the counter-attack, the impressive Obeng sealed the game with a fine finish into the far corner.

This was a great team effort from Northants, but both sides scored quality goals in what was a great cup tie. Both teams should be very proud of their performances on the day.

Northamptonshire FA would like to thank the officials, Devon FA’s management team, committee members and players for playing their part in a great advert for county football.

A special thank-you also goes to Wellingborough Town FC for their hospitality and warm welcome.
