Jon Inwood to Step Down as County Youth Manager at the End of the Season

After seven years as manager of the Northamptonshire FA County Youth Under-18 team, Jon Inwood has decided to step down at the end of the season.

Having been one of the longer-serving managers, Jon feels it is time to step back and allow someone new to take the Northamptonshire FA Representative team forward.

Jon was a former youth team player in the mid-1980s, leading the front-line and scoring goals alongside Lee Glover.

During his spell as manager, Jon has built good relationships with clubs and players and has established a good foundation for both the county and his successor.

Jon has lead the team and his backroom staff in a professional way and this has been rewarded by the loyalty and commitment of players.

After some lean years in the County Youth Cup, the last two seasons have seen the team progress with good runs, beating traditionally strong counties on the way to the latter stages of the competition.

In the Midland Counties he has seen the side reach two semi-finals, narrowly losing to Birmingham on both occasions.

This season, the team are in contention for the MCYC after beating Bedfordshire FA 4-0 and, despite a narrow 4-3 defeat against Staffordshire, Jon is hoping to end his tenure as Midland Counties Champions for the first time since 2007.

The search will now begin for Jon’s successor.

Youth Chairman, Steve Inwood, said “Jon has lead the county team in a professional manner and we are looking for someone with the same approach to take the county forward next season. We want to see good well-qualified candidates come forward.”

County FA Chairman, Bob Cotter, added: “We want to thank Jon for his hard work and dedication and wish him well for the future.”

Northants FA’s matches for the remainder of the season are:

March 10: Nottinghamshire FA  at Bugbrooke SM FC. KO 2pm
