Futsal Finals Day Line-Up Confirmed

Northamptonshire FA release details for inaugural Futsal County Cup Finals Day

The line-up for the inaugural Northamptonshire FA Futsal County Cup Finals day on Sunday 23 June has been confirmed, with an action-packed day of futsal expected at Arena Sport Kettering.

In what will be the first time Northamptonshire FA has ever held a Futsal County Cup Finals Day, the morning session will comprise of a free coaching event delivered by Luis Mendonca, an FA Futsal tutor and Head Coach of Cambridge United Futsal, who finished as runners up in the 2019 FA Futsal Cup earlier this year.

A limited number of spaces are still available for the session titled “Structuring a Futsal Practice” and can be booked by CLICKING HERE

The first of the day’s two finals is the Women’s Cup between Corby Steelers Futsal Club and Peterborough United Futsal (1.30pm kick-off).

The Corby-based side are full of confidence after finishing the Northants League season as runners-up, but Peterborough United will hope their National Futsal League experience will see them through.

A high-scoring final is expected with such talented goalscorers on each side, including Indi Totty, Sophie Mullett and Sophie Findlay of Corby Steelers and Stacey McConville, Nicole Andrejczuk and Laura Dodwell of Peterborough United.

The men’s final, which kicks off at the later time of 3.30pm, puts local side Kettering Futsal Club up against Northampton Oly Cats Futsal Club. Kettering Futsal breezed through their semi-final against Corby Futsal Club two weeks ago, whilst Northampton Oly Cats had a much tougher encounter against Kettering’s Development side, but still managed to progress with a 3-1 win.

Kettering Futsal, who played in the second tier of the FA National Futsal League last season, will enter the game as slight favourites against their third tier counterparts. However, Northampton Oly Cats proved on two occasions last season that they can upset the form guide, recording wins over the higher ranked Worcester Futsal Club and Aylesbury Futsal Club.

Kettering players to look out for include the pacey Harry Henbury, vocal Curtis Taylor-Jacob and long-standing captain Mitchell Barratt. For Oly Cats, goalkeeper Nathan Rosshart is likely to be tested throughout but will hope that Rajan Badiani and Jacob Westley can chip in with goals at the other end to lead the side to victory.

Stuart Smith, Northamptonshire FA Football Development Officer, said: “We’re very grateful to Arena Sport Kettering for their support to hold this event, which builds on a long-running partnership between the County FA and the fantastic sports facility. Both the men’s and women’s finals promise to be full of goal-mouth action, so we’re looking forward to seeing the people of Kettering, and wider afield, join us for an afternoon of entertainment!”

Entry is payable on the door at Arena Sport Kettering, priced at £3 for adults and £1 for children.
